13 Great Prompt Ideas for AI Font Generation in Adobe Firefly

Adobe introduced Adobe Firefly in March 2023. The latest AI tool includes a small handful of AI features, including the AI Text Effects feature. Using this feature, you can take almost anything your imagination can think of and turn it into a 3D-style text.

While having your entire imagination to come up with ideas may seem incredible, sometimes it’s better to have a list of prompts to bounce off. Here are 13 great prompt ideas for AI font generation using Adobe Firefly.

How to Use Adobe Firefly’s AI Text Effects Generator

Adobe Firefly was announced in March 2023, but if you want to use it, you must have an Adobe account to sign up for the Firefly Beta. Once signed up, Adobe will e-mail you a link to access Adobe Firefly, including the AI Text Effects tool.

You’ll see a few options, including a cool Recolor Vectors tool. We’ve written a guide for how to use Adobe Firefly’s AI vector recoloring tool. Scroll to find the Text Effects option and select Generate to open the Text Effects tool page.

You’ll see some large examples of AI text effects, and at the bottom is a text box split into two. On the left, you can type the text you wish to apply the effect to—we’re going to write “MakeUseOf” for all our examples—and the larger part of the text box is where you can write your descriptive prompt before selecting Generate to realize your imagination.

Once you've generated a text effect you like, hover your cursor over it and select the Download icon or Options > Copy to Clipboard, so you can paste your text directly into Photoshop. Let’s jump into some great prompts you can try.

1. Banana Skin

A slightly ripened banana has such a recognizable texture, and you can easily use Banana Skin as a successful prompt in Adobe Firefly. This prompt produces a fun-loving text that could be great for any food branding or designs.

Select Loose under Text Effect Fit to add some playfulness with strands of banana.

2. Denim

Make like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears circa 2001 and live out all your double-denim dreams with this Denim prompt.

Firefly generates a rough-and-ready style of denim to coat your lettering. Not quite fashionable ripped jeans, but scruffy and texturized—which is enough to catch the eye.

3. Plumbing Pipes

Play towards the thin layered textures of Adobe Firefly’s results and use Plumbing Pipes as a prompt. You’ll have a result of overlaying pipes and connectors of various colors. Just don’t show your local plumber this pipe work; it’s not as neat as you’d want your bathroom pipes to look.

4. Holographic Paper

While Firefly doesn’t generate results of sweeping coverage, you can achieve a layered paper result with this prompt. You can also create a similar layered paper effect in Procreate if you want more precise results.

These holographic colors are trendy and eye-catching. You could use this text effect for any designs that appeal to a young adult market.

5. Cobalt Blue Candle Wax Drip

This cobalt blue text effect makes eyes pop. The candle wax effect is exaggerated when you select Loose under the Text Effect Fit panel, resulting in small candles and even flames on top of the text. Choose the Blue color swatch under Text Color options to make your text look like letter-shaped candles dripping luxuriously with wax.

The 3D text effects from Firefly’s AI Text Effects tool are a great alternative to many 3D creation alternatives.

6. Summer Flowers

Add a beautiful summery or spring vibe to your designs using this Summer Flowers text prompt. Leaving Loose checked under Text Effect Fit allows for some sprouting leaves and flowers. This gives a gorgeous overgrown look.

This prompt works great for any nature brand, florists, or would even work perfect on a Mother’s Day greetings card.

7. Overgrown Vine Jungle

If you want rustic Tangled-inspired text, using Overgrown Vine Jungle as a prompt will produce the perfect result for just that. We switched the typeface to Vortice under the Font options to result in this monospace overgrown lettering.

Using this prompt on the design of a fairy tale book cover would work really well. It has plenty of whimsical feel and mystery to it, while not being too spooky.

8. Rose Gold Balloon

This prompt is right on trend in 2023. The rose gold color is a top choice for luxury branding, and foil balloons are still a prominent feature for many Instagram influencers' birthday parties.

We changed the Text Effect Fit to Tight, so the foil effect stretches more realistically over the letters. And we changed the Font to Source Sans 3 to be closer to how the real-life letter balloons look. Copy these letters to your clipboard and draw balloon strings in Photoshop to finish the design.

9. Twisted Chocolate

For lettering that makes you want to rip it off the screen and devour it, try the Twisted Chocolate prompt. These twirled milk and white chocolate-esque letters give Willy Wonka a run for his money.

These letters would work great for food branding, a baking recipe book, or designing a birthday card for your chocoholic bestie. Just try not to drool over it.

10. Disco Ball

Ever needed disco ball lettering? Well, now you can have it. This Disco Ball prompt doesn’t disappoint with its reflective, shiny mosaic tiles. It even reflects in realistic colors rather than plain bland silver. This prompt produces a really fun result that could be used for many things, especially a party invite for an ABBA party.

11. Snake Skin

Using Snake Skin as an AI prompt will yield varying results. Some of the scales look stretched or warped and are larger than some of the others. While individual letters look good, snakeskin effect across an entire word doesn’t look as cohesive as a pair of snakeskin loafers. But this prompt would be great for individual letters or if you don’t mind the random patterns shared over the full word.

12. Pink Feather Boa

Using this prompt makes a bright, fun result. You’ll get letters dressed up as flamingos. Changing the color in your written prompt has great results, too, so you can have a ton of fun with this text effect. Choose Loose under the Text Effect Fit options to let random feather strands fly out from your letters.

13. Silver Drip

Melted silver or metal looks really cool, so this Silver Drip prompt lets you have that melted metal effect without the risk of burns. Change up the prompt with other metal types to suit your color desires. Silver Drip gives an air of sophistication. This text effect would be great to use if you’re a blacksmith or work with jewelry.

AI Lettering Design in a Flash

Adobe Firefly’s latest tools make designing intricate 3D lettering fast and easy. While not every generation is perfect, it gives you a base point to work from without slaving away for hours. Easily download your generated text as it is or copy it to your clipboard for further editing in Photoshop. The possibilities are endless, but these prompts certainly give you some ideas to start from if you’re feeling overwhelmed.
